Connection Constraint Drill
Arm-torso connection
6 min
Begin with 6–10 quality reps or a short controlled set; stop before mechanics degrade. For throwing/pitching, workload and intensity must remain age/level appropriate.
Beginner
Why this drill
The light connection constraint makes early arm separation obvious while still allowing a natural release after the turn.
Setup
Place a light towel under lead or trail armpit as appropriate; dry swings/tee first.
How to perform it
- 1Make controlled swings retaining connection long enough to organize turn, without pinning arms unnaturally.
Key feel
Turn together, then release naturally.
Success cue
Reduced early disconnection while maintaining free extension after contact.
Recommended reps
Begin with 6–10 quality reps or a short controlled set; stop before mechanics degrade. For throwing/pitching, workload and intensity must remain age/level appropriate.
Progression
rehearsal → constrained rep → variable rep → game-like rep when appropriate.
Common mistake
Pinning the arms to the torso throughout the swing instead of using the constraint only to organize the early turn.
