Outfield First-Step Angles

Instructions

  1. 1Start in an outfield ready position with your weight forward.
  2. 2On a partner's point or fly ball, drop-step to that side and turn the hips immediately.
  3. 3Run on the balls of your feet with the glove down until the last stride.
  4. 4Catch above the throwing shoulder with the feet moving through it.

What to focus on

First step opening the hips toward the ball's path.

Common mistake

Drifting sideways or a false step back before breaking.
