Instructions
- 1Charge a slowly rolled ball with short, choppy steps as you close.
- 2Field it off the outside of the glove-side foot — glove for balls you can reach, bare hand only when the ball is nearly stopped.
- 3Release on the run from a low three-quarter slot with the chest working toward first.
- 4Stop the set the moment you start fielding the ball under your body.
What to focus on
Timing the last step so the pickup and the throw are one motion.
Common mistake
Arriving flat-footed and having to gather, which turns an out into a bang-bang play.
