Game Tempo Management Scrimmage

Practice controlling tempo when protecting or chasing a lead

Instructions

  1. 1Start a scrimmage with a scripted score and a shortened game clock.
  2. 2Assign one team to protect the lead (slow tempo, possession) and one to chase it (fast tempo).
  3. 3Play out the possessions with realistic clock management for each role.
  4. 4Debrief tempo decisions immediately after time expires.

Matching tempo decisions to the actual game situation and score.

Common mistake

Playing the same tempo whether protecting a lead or trying to come back.
