Contact Point Reach Drill
Extend fully into contact instead of hitting flat-footed
8 min
4 sets of 6
Intermediate
Why this drill
Improve the diagnosed technical behavior while preserving functional strengths.
Setup
Begin with shadow/rehearsal or controlled feed appropriate to the action.
Instructions
- 1Hold a racquet overhead at full extension and mark the highest comfortable reach on a fence or wall.
- 2Serve toward that same height, focusing on reaching up and slightly in front of the baseline.
- 3Check that the shoulder, hip and reaching arm are all stacked vertically at contact.
Key feel
Full vertical extension of the hitting arm at contact.
Success cue
The targeted behavior becomes more repeatable on comparable balls without creating a new visible breakdown.
Recommended reps
4 sets of 6
Progression
Shadow/rehearsal → controlled feed → directional live ball → variable feed → point-based constraint → match-like execution.
Common mistake
Contacting the ball too low and out to the side, spraying serves wide.
