Open Stance Recovery Rally
Recover balance after an open-stance forehand
10 min
6 x 90-second rallies
Intermediate
Why this drill
Improve the diagnosed technical behavior while preserving functional strengths.
Setup
Begin with shadow/rehearsal or controlled feed appropriate to the action.
Instructions
- 1Rally cross-court forehands from an open or semi-open stance.
- 2After each hit, push off the outside leg to recover back toward the center mark.
- 3Keep hitting only while recovery happens before the opponent's next contact.
Key feel
A quick outside-leg push-off immediately after contact.
Success cue
The targeted behavior becomes more repeatable on comparable balls without creating a new visible breakdown.
Recommended reps
6 x 90-second rallies
Progression
Shadow/rehearsal → controlled feed → directional live ball → variable feed → point-based constraint → match-like execution.
Common mistake
Standing flat-footed after the swing and watching the shot.
