9 min
5 sets of 6
Advanced
Why this drill
Improve the diagnosed technical behavior while preserving functional strengths.
Setup
Begin with shadow/rehearsal or controlled feed appropriate to the action.
Instructions
- 1Receive a short ball, hit an approach shot, and continue moving forward through contact.
- 2Split step again just inside the service line before the opponent's passing attempt.
- 3React to the pass attempt and finish with a volley or overhead.
Key feel
Continuous forward movement with a second split step at the net.
Success cue
The targeted behavior becomes more repeatable on comparable balls without creating a new visible breakdown.
Recommended reps
5 sets of 6
Progression
Shadow/rehearsal → controlled feed → directional live ball → variable feed → point-based constraint → match-like execution.
Common mistake
Stopping flat-footed after the approach shot instead of continuing forward.
