Crossover First-Step Drill
Cover wide balls efficiently with a crossover step
8 min
5 sets of 6 per side
Intermediate
Why this drill
Improve the diagnosed technical behavior while preserving functional strengths.
Setup
Begin with shadow/rehearsal or controlled feed appropriate to the action.
Instructions
- 1Start at the center mark in the ready position.
- 2On the cue, take one crossover step toward the wide cone before opening the hips.
- 3Sprint to the ball, hit, and shuffle back to center to reset.
Key feel
A direct crossover first step instead of several short shuffle steps.
Success cue
The targeted behavior becomes more repeatable on comparable balls without creating a new visible breakdown.
Recommended reps
5 sets of 6 per side
Progression
Shadow/rehearsal → controlled feed → directional live ball → variable feed → point-based constraint → match-like execution.
Common mistake
Turning the hips too early and shuffling sideways, losing ground on wide balls.
