Lateral Shuffle Shadow Drill

Stay balanced while covering the baseline laterally

8 min
6 x 30 seconds
Intermediate

Why this drill

Improve the diagnosed technical behavior while preserving functional strengths.

Setup

Begin with shadow/rehearsal or controlled feed appropriate to the action.

Instructions

  1. 1Shuffle sideways along the baseline between two cones, staying low with feet apart.
  2. 2Shadow-swing a forehand or backhand at each cone without crossing the feet.
  3. 3Keep the head level and avoid bobbing up and down between shuffles.

Key feel

A low, balanced base that stays level while moving sideways.

Success cue

The targeted behavior becomes more repeatable on comparable balls without creating a new visible breakdown.

Recommended reps

6 x 30 seconds

Progression

Shadow/rehearsal → controlled feed → directional live ball → variable feed → point-based constraint → match-like execution.

Common mistake

Standing too tall and crossing the feet, losing balance on direction changes.
