Half-Volley Low Ball Drill
Handle low balls at the feet without scooping
8 min
4 sets of 10
Intermediate
Why this drill
Improve the diagnosed technical behavior while preserving functional strengths.
Setup
Begin with shadow/rehearsal or controlled feed appropriate to the action.
Instructions
- 1Feed balls that bounce just in front of the feet at the service line.
- 2Bend the knees to get low, keeping the racquet face slightly open and steady.
- 3Contact the ball immediately after the bounce with a short, controlled punch.
Key feel
Getting low with the legs rather than scooping with the racquet.
Success cue
The targeted behavior becomes more repeatable on comparable balls without creating a new visible breakdown.
Recommended reps
4 sets of 10
Progression
Shadow/rehearsal → controlled feed → directional live ball → variable feed → point-based constraint → match-like execution.
Common mistake
Bending only at the waist and scooping the racquet face upward.
