Tight-Lie Brush Chip
Low-point control
6 min
8 rehearsals, then 10 balls.
Beginner
Why this drill
Deliver the club shallow enough to brush firm turf instead of digging into it.
Setup
Find the firmest available lie. Place a towel a grip length behind the ball.
How to perform it
- 1Make chipping motions that brush the turf just under the ball without touching the towel.
Key feel
The sole of the club skids; the leading edge never sticks.
Success cue
Shallow brush marks starting at or just after the ball, towel untouched.
Recommended reps
8 rehearsals, then 10 balls.
Progression
Move to a shot with a slight downslope.
Common mistake
Steepening the shaft to guarantee ball-first contact.
